Intelligent Coating – Christian Mathis about the ETH Spinoff SuSoS

SuSoS has been focusing on consulting and the development of coating solutions using such thin polymer films since it was established as an ETH spin-off in 2004. "Thin-film polymers are all-rounders," explains Christian Mathis. They are used as lubricating layers or adhesion promoters, and they prevent the formation of biofilms on surfaces or support the binding of antibodies, proteins, or cells to sensors. This is why they find frequent application in medical technology and the life sciences. About one year ago, ...

yamo – enjoyment for the little ones, joy for the grown-ups

Yamo wants to shake up the baby food market. A startup company in Central Switzerland has developed a novel approach and is developing the freshest organic baby food in Europe. Conventional baby food is heat-sterilized and, in an unchilled state, has a shelf life of 1.5 years, during which it loses its color, flavor, and all valuable nutrients. Using new technology, yamo manages to prolong the sell-by date of baby food for several weeks. Alumni in Focus – The Beekeepers’ Startup

The startup Vatorex has a heart for bees and is concerned about their health. Increasingly, bee colonies die out completely within a period of just three or four years due to infestation with the varroa mite. In the fight against parasites, beekeepers are frequently rather aggressive, using, for example, formic acid, oxalic acid, or other harmful pesticides which cause stress to the bees as well as the beekeepers. Vatorex has developed an alternative, natural treatment method: a hyperthermia system which ...
